I propose a vote

Upon re-reading, I realized that my last blog post has a mistake in it. Actually, it's safe to assume that most of my posts have mistakes, but I’m not talking about grammar troubles here.

“How very American of me, right?”

Anybody see it? I said American, as in from America. Although, what I really mean is the United States. Yes, I know we live in the United States of America, but I’ve realized how easily I forget that there are two other countries and a whole other continent that are part of an America …..Canada, Mexico and all of South America in case you don’t have a map handy :-P

I’m not sure if people from the rest of the Western Hemisphere even get offended by this; but just in case, I think it’s time we come up with an extra option when referring to ourselves according to nationality.

United States-ians?....United States-ic?............United States-ish?

Hmmm…none of these have a ring to them, but you can see where I’m going.

For those of you playing along at home....

So I leave for the Peace Corps three months from today! Yikes!

“What is Kelly doing for her last three months in the states?” you ask yourself. Answer: nothing.

What???

Ok, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but that’s how I feel about the past few weeks. I have all sorts of lists made and trips planned, but none of it relates to the month of March. On top of which, my parents are traveling so much for work I think they might have forgotten where the house is. I knew we had a problem when I found my dad walking down the street with a rolling suitcase, knocking on doors until he found someone he recognized.

Hmm….now I’m lying and I’ve forgotten what I’m talking about….

I think the truth is that I’m just not sure how to handle free time. How very American of me, right? I actually have a fairly acceptable reason to not have a steady job right now and I can’t stop beating myself up about it. Isn’t this what we dream about when we do have jobs? So that’s my goal for this month: Enjoy the fact that my to-do list only takes a few hours to complete and then find ways to enjoy Athens while I’m still here.

Before you ask: Yes, you all have the right to throw this back in my face when I get to Peru and have to learn how to do things like sleep and brush my teeth simultaneously just to save time.
